KK Security Senior Management

Many of the Management Team in the Group have been with it since its take over in 1993 and the average employment of the senior management is eight years. The industry average in East Africa for security employees is considerably less than this.

Derek J Oatway, Group Chairman – Derek is a British Citizen and the majority shareholder in KK Security. Born in Bermuda, Derek is a professional manager who retired from the American International Group (AIG), after 34 years of service in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America and the USA. He is also a Director of AAR Health Services in Kenya. He has lived in Nairobi for the last 30 years.






James Omwando, Chief Executive Officer - James is a Kenyan citizen with a solid background in financial planning and management. Prior to joining KK Security, James spent nine years with American Life Insurance Company (ALICO) as Area Manager of Mombasa. He has been with the company since 1993 and became a Director in 1995.



Dr Lorenzo Bertolli, Group Vice-Chairman - Lorenzo joined the KK Board of Directors on the 1st March 2005. He has a wealth of managerial experience spanning four decades. Focusing on development, Lorenzo has created, reorganized and modernized some of the major brands in East Africa. He is a member of the Eastern Africa Association and the American Business Association. He is also a Director of Nyumbani Children’s Home, Vice Chairman of the Kenya Chapter of the ‘Italians Living Abroad Committee’ and a trustee of Laikipia Nature Conservancy.






Terry Davidson Group Director - Terry joined the Board in mid-2009. He was born in Kenya and educated here and in England. He spent 30 years with Citibank, 8 years of which running their business in Kenya. He was CEO of KCB for 4 years and also spent one year as Chairman and Special Advisor of Renaissance Capital. He is a non executive Director of the Deposit Protection Fund, Faulu Ltd and Kenol/Kobil. He is also a Council Member of the University of Nairobi and a Trustee of Gertrude’s Garden Children’s Hospital.




Patrick Grant, Chief Executive Officer, KK Lodgit - Patrick was born in Northern Ireland and has spent nearly 20 years in Africa. He joined the Company in March 1995 and is responsible for the Group’s growth throughout Africa. He is Managing Director of Kenya Kazi Services Ltd and is based in Nairobi. He has an Honours Degree in Business Administration from Brooks University, Oxford. Before joining the Group he worked in IBM’s Head Office in London.





Andrew Hollas, Group Director – Andrew has recently retired as the Regional Senior Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers responsible for East, Central and West Africa. He has been based in East Africa since 1980 and has extensive experience for commercial organizations throughout Africa. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a member of the UK Institute of Directors, and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. He has been resident in Kenya since 1980.





Alan Shonubi, Director - Uganda: Alan graduated in 1981 from Makerere University in Kampala with a Degree in Law. After enrolling and passing the Bar in 1982, he set began practicing as a lawyer in 1986. In 1989, he started his own private practice. Alan is a member of Uganda Capital Markets Authority and also sits on the boards of AAR, Uganda Bati, Uganda Oxygen and Uganda Coffee. He joined the Board of KK Security (Uganda) in 2001.





Ngoga Makabuza Modeste- Director DR Congo– Mode is a Congolese citizen born in Bagira – Bukavu, South Kivu Province, in 1958. A successful businessman whose business interests include Transport, Export/ Import, Oil, Minerals, Tea Estates and Manufacturing, Coffee, Contractor and Tour Operations Company. He joined KK Security in September 2008 as a Director.
